Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) IPM Workshop

Learn how to apply integrated pest management (IPM) principles to manage hemlock trees on your property for the invasive forest pest, hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA). You may be eligible to receive free tree cages and a property walk-through with a Forestry Assistance Program forester (available only to qualifying properties; supplies are limited).
Presented information will include: HWA identification and life cycle, Management techniques including chemical treatment, biocontrol, and forest thinning, Forest regeneration strategies
This event will be held in-person, but there will also be a virtual attendance option. The Zoom Link will be sent out to registrants prior to the event. Please register using this Google Form.

Volunteer for Autumn Olive Removal

Volunteer with the Allegan Conservation District for the opportunity to help remove autumn olive, an invasive shrub threatening our local ecosystems. During this program, you’ll learn to identify autumn olive, understand why it is harmful to native habitats, and discover how it spreads aggressively to outcompete native plants and reduce biodiversity. You’ll receive training on how to properly remove or manage autumn olive to help restore healthy natural areas. No experience is necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and be ready to make a meaningful impact outdoors!
We recommend bringing a water bottle and wearing clothes that can get dirty. All other materials will be provided.
For ages 12 and up.
Guardians stay with the group.

The Kalamazoo River Watershed Council and Allegan Conservation District are partnering with the Allegan District Library on Saturday, Sept 12th for a Youth & Family Paddle & Discovery Day! All ages are welcome to enjoy a storytime session and Activity Passport in the park, and then ages 5 and up are invited to learn to paddle in a kayak with KRWC.
Registration is required day-of, ONLY for paddling, with KRWC. You do NOT need to call the library to register ahead of time. Personal watercraft are strictly prohibited due to limited park space.

This class will be instructed by artist Paulette Carr the owner of Brave Art Studios & Gallery. You will be painting a floral still life of native Michigan flowers while enjoying a dirty soda bar! All supplies will be provided but please bring a cardboard box to take your wet piece of art home with you.
*Only participants will be permitted into the workshop. Kids 12 and older allowed to participate in the class (full price).
